Strategy first: what a dual-purpose setup must do
- Be fast in both directions: low-latency play and high-throughput creation.
- Stay quiet and cool under load.
- Deliver accurate color and great motion clarity.
- Keep tools within reach without clutter.
- Switch modes quickly: from “work” to “play” in seconds.

Start with the desk and ergonomics
- Size and shape: 60–72 inches wide and 30 inches deep gives room for dual displays, speakers, and arms. Depth improves viewing distance and mouse space.
- Sit–stand base: switching posture reduces fatigue on long edits or game sessions. Add an anti-fatigue mat.
- Surface and frame: stable, low-flex surface; avoid glass if you do color work (glare) or pen tablets (tracking).
- Monitor arms: free desk space, perfect alignment, easy tilt for pen displays, and allow you to center your primary display.
- Cable management: under-desk tray, grommets, adhesive raceways, and Velcro ties. Route power and signal separately to reduce interference.
